If you're like many survivors, the answer is "thoughtful." Some of the women I work after a cancer diagnosis to turn their lives upside down, while others find that their lives are exactly as they wish. Other adjust certain areas of their lives, to find more satisfaction. But almost all of them in my experience as a life coach and business results, use diagnosis as an opportunity to examine their lives. They look at what's working, what is not and start browsing the next stage of the journey of its heroine.

What's behind all this? A diagnosis of cancer or any life-threatening illness is often re-orient and may result in a massive shift of priorities. It raises questions about what really matters to the survivor, who may or may not be different from the person they were BC (before cancer). A cancer diagnosis or any life-threatening illness can:

-Provide the opportunity for survivors to know why they are here and what and who really matters.

-To serve as a wake-up call to examine what has endured and;

"Give permission to the survivors shift their priorities. You can see the truth of what matters, that matters, and what they have been doing with their lives.

Having asked these questions, what survivors can do to improve the quality of your life and live more authentically, on your terms? The first place to start is with your level of satisfaction with their lives. Because this is an article, not a training session, I do not show all steps that could take if you chose to make some adjustments. Instead, I will focus on eliminating what you do not want to have more space for you desired.

A training tool called the Wheel of Life is the place to start. Divide a circle into eight pie-shaped segments: the friends and family; significant other / romance, fun and recreation, health, money, personal growth, physical environment, and race. Classification satisfied in each area on a scale of 1-10. Now, with a snapshot of where it is today, and using a magic wand realistic, "notes where you want to be in every one of the areas you would like to improve. The more detailed the better.

Now write down all the things that are stressing in this space: either your work, friends, family, physical environment or even yourself. When you write, increase your awareness of what irritates you. There are two ways to deal with irritations, both will make you feel more power. You can determine the actions and requests necessary to eliminate these irritants from your life. This can be as simple as telling the truth. Or you can accept the reality of situation, trying to let go of control, or them, and to focus on something more rewarding.

Another issue to consider is time. What are your patients with loss of personal time? Long phone conversations, television or the Internet? Write a list of activities that eat into your time and promise that you will not enjoy them for over an hour a day. You will be amazed at how much free time you suddenly have available.

How strong your limits in the area that would like to see improved? If you're spending too much time doing things that do not want to do, it's probably time to abandon "Disease to please" and raise some personal boundaries. If its boundaries are ill defined, it is more likely that you attract people who think is right to expect or demand something from you. Remember, we teach people how to treat us. Being clear about your limits, you regain control of your life and show others how much you value them.

Make these simple changes can create a life that looks and feels different and most importantly, better for you. Why is this important? Because, as I said at the beginning of this article, now as never known before that life is precious. As the poet Mary Oliver asks in one of his poems, "What will you do with this wild and precious life?"
