Mill General Happiness

Did anyone see Oprah yesterday in puppy mills?
I was shocked and appalled. I never really knew much about mills puppy. But then, when I tried to explain to my husband that these people treat their dogs like any other livestock (cows, pigs, etc), said that puppies are animals too right – not necessarily the category of livestock. (I do not give a wrong impression – my husband is loving and loyal to our puppy and all animals in general) But I could not come up with a good argument about how the puppies are different from those cows. He asked if I had ever seen a cow in a slaughterhouse (I have) He says it is horrible and seems to feel that the cattle and dogs fall into the same category – all feel emotions, pain and happiness. I have curiosity to see what others think. I never could imagine eating a dog or puppy a slaughter house, but I agree, eating hamburgers. So perhaps this is a totally dumb question, but they are puppies more emotionally advanced than cattle?
I do not know the answer to your question, but I know exactly what you're feeling. I am a meat eater and after the show yesterday I could not help thinking that similar things will probably go on to other animal-related industries. Now I'm conflicted about eating meat and I do some research on my own. I really love meat though so this is going to be hard.
