Happiness This Way

Why so many people equate happiness with being part of a partner?

and single, with the sadness? I think there are many positive things to be both unique and part of a couple, but for some reason, sometimes seem to be the automatic assumption that only someone who is unhappy with their state civil or her. Thoughts?

People tend to think that whatever makes them happy also make someone else happy. I've been alone for a few years and now many of my friends and coworkers want me to fix. I appreciate the concern, but after my last marriage I decided I'd rather be alone and lonely be with someone who is not right for me. I do not want to be alone in my golden years, but I accepted the fact that you may have to be and I'll be fine.
